The heritage site at Weston-sub-Edge is a Scheduled Ancient Monument — one of the highest levels of protection given to any site in England. But that protection cannot prevent the site from deteriorating without proper, ongoing maintenance.
The only permanent solution is for the community — through WSE Heritage CIC — to own the land outright. Once in community ownership, the site can be properly managed, the moat restored, archaeological work commissioned, and public access guaranteed forever.
